CPL ALISON WHITTAKER - A MILATARY CLERK FROM CHESHIRE 104 BN REME (V)
I have been in the TA for over 14 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. It's a challenging and exciting pastime, combining military training with a fun, social side.
The skills that I have learnt through the TA eg, man-management and leadership skills, have not only benefited me, but have also benefited my employer who recognises what a valuable contribution these skills bring to his business.
One of the most challenging events that I took part in was the Nijmegen Marches, a 100 mile walk broken down over four consecutive days, which takes place in Holland every year. It is the most mentally and physically demanding event that I have ever undertaken, but a fantastic experience as over 40,000 people - a mixture of civilians and military from around the World - take part.
Being in the TA has had a very positive impact of my life, giving me the confidence to try different experiences. I have made life-long friends along the way and the camaraderie is unlike anything which you experience in civilian life.
