CFN TARIQ ALAM OF 207 INCR COY 104 BATTALION FROM TELFORD

I work at ABRO Donnington (Army Base Repair Organisation) Telford, Shropshire. I am employed as an electronics engineer and repair the army communication and electrical equipment used on Warrior APC's and CVRT's right down to component level.

I joined the Specialist REME TA to be challenged, both mentally and physically and I wanted to learn new skills that I could use in my normal job, such as leadership and team working skills.

I have learnt all these skills with the TA and more eg, weapon and battlefield skills. As well as learning exactly what life as a soldier is like, the TA has also taught me a great deal about military life and I have a great deal of respect for serving soldiers in the British Army. You get to meet a lot of people from different walks of life and get to travel all over England and the world.

I have done a two week camp at Catterick where I joined a regular REME Battalion and repaired Clansman radios and did lots of physical training. I have been to Belgium to visit the Battlefields around Ypres and parading at the Last Post at Menin Gate. I have also done adventurous training which included mountain biking, coasteering and quad biking. I get special paid leave for my two week camp every year from my employer and the REME TA pay for my travelling costs plus TA pay.
