Technical Storemen/Women are vital to the effectiveness of a REME Workshop, dependent on the quality of its technical stores. Technical Storemen and Women are important and responsible trades people who are conversant with stores accounting procedures and identification of a wide range of technical equipment. They understand and practise the principles involved in stores management and are responsible for the security, identification, issuing, receipting, demanding and accounting of a vast range of technical components and special tools.

Minimum Entry Standards: Must be below 37 years old on entry, have experience in a stores environment and be able to use a computer.

SSGT ANDY JOBE IS A TECHNICAL STOREMAN IN 104 BN REME (V) FROM PLYMOUTH, DEVON

I joined the REME TA 24 years ago, having spent 15 years in independent TA units in London and Plymouth and with my unit disbanding in Plymouth it was an ideal opportunity to reduce my commitment to TA and joined 104 REME (V) Specialist REME in Bordon.

During my TA career I have been a Class 1 Recovery mechanic for 15 years, to enable promotion, changed my trade to Technical Storeman this I have found has been good training for my civilian employment, covering accounting stock control and ordering.

The TA has been very rewarding to me in a number of ways, keeping me fit, with regular free medicals and countless opportunities to travel and train in places I would never have dreamt of visiting: Denmark, Germany, Poland, Gibraltar, Belize and most recently all around the Middle East whilst on mobilized service with the Regular Army.

Whilst in Belize I obtained an Open Water Diving Certificate and visited some very exotic dive sites memories that will stay with me forever. Whilst recently working with the regular army in the Middle East I made some lifelong friends and felt I made a contribution to the effort of the Regular Joint Forces, putting into practice all the excellent training and experience I have gained over the years in the TA.

The man management skills and training provided to me, allowed me to step into the position of acting Sgt Major commanding a team of 21 men whilst in the Middle East. My experience was that in this day and age there is no real difference between TA and regular soldiers we all have the same equipment, training and structure, we all blend in well and get the job done professionally.
